Lifespan Counseling Center is on the cutting edge of misophonia treatment.  Until recently misophonia was considered untreatable.  Dr. Andrea Sywulak of Lifespan Counseling Center is among a handful of professional counselors working successfully to treat Misophonia.

Misophonia is a negative emotional response to certain trigger sounds.  The sound triggers vary from person to person and are usually sounds that most other people would not notice.

When a person with misophonia is exposed to one of their trigger sounds, it will create a reaction ranging from moderate discomfort to acute annoyance or all the way up to full-fledged rage or panic.  While experiencing a trigger event, a person with misophonia may become agitated, defensive or offensive.  They might distance themselves from the trigger or possibly act out and express anger or rage at the source of the offending sound.

Misophonia can have a seriously debilitating effect on personal and work relationships and job stability.  So many people in their lives simply cannot understand the acute discomfort that trigger sounds can cause.

But brain-based therapies are developing rapidly and at Lifespan Counseling Center we are now able to provide significant relief for people who suffer from misophonia.
